Board of Commissioners

The Southwest Mississippi Mental Health/Mental Retardation Commission is the governing body of the Complex and has final authority over all programs and services provided by Region 11. The Commission approves the agency’s annual operating budget and must approve any changes in its organizational policies and procedures. The Board is composed of ten Commissioners. One is appointed by each of the Boards of Supervisors in the ten counties served by the agency. Each Commissioner represents his/her county and meets periodically with his/her Board of Supervisors to provide them with updates regarding the Complex and the services it provides. The Commission holds its board meetings once per month with the exception of November, and on the fourth Thursday of the month with the exception of December. In December, the Commission meets just before the agency’s annual Awards Banquet, which recognizes outstanding contributions from staff, volunteers and Commissioners during the past year.
