| Specialized services for children include group therapy conducted within the school setting for children identified as having severe emotional and/or behavioral problems, as well as family therapy for their caregivers to assist them with addressing these problems with their children. The treatment approach used is a prevention/early intervention oriented psycho-educational model, with an emphasis on development of a therapeutic alliance composed of the child, the caregiver, and the therapist. The primary focus for these services is children in the elementary and middle school grades. The principle supporting this focus is the idea that the earlier potential mental health issues are confronted in a child's life, the more effectively these may be addressed and future mental health concerns may be prevented. |
